What are the FISU World University Rowing Championships?
The FISU World University Rowing Championships are an international championship dedicated specifically to university rowing, bringing together student-athletes and national university teams from around the world.
Rowing has been an official FISU World University Championship sport since 1984 and has developed into an important international competition within the university rowing pathway.
Unlike the World University Games, which are a large multi-sport event, WURC provides a dedicated championship environment focused specifically on rowing.
For South African university rowers, WURC provides an opportunity to compete internationally through the USSA Rowing pathway while continuing their university studies.
Latest Edition — London 2026
The 2026 FISU World University Rowing Championships were held in London, Ontario, Canada from 13–15 August 2026 at Fanshawe Lake.
The championship brought together student-rowers from around the world for three days of international racing. South Africa did not participate in the 2026 edition.

Athletes must meet the eligibility requirements applicable to the relevant WURC campaign.
Exact criteria, documentation requirements, trial dates and selection procedures will be published for each campaign.
Internationally based South African student-athletes are not currently eligible for selection to the USSA Rowing team for the FISU World University Rowing Championships (WURC).
